Honors College Experiential and Community-Engaged Learning (EXCEL) Program
Application Deadline: April 15, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.
The Honors College EXCEL program supports WVU undergraduate students in experiential and community-engaged learning. Students will develop skills in leadership, project management, communication and collaborative scholarship.

Eligibility:
- All WVU students with a GPA>3.4 & who will have at least 3 semesters remaining before graduation (graduation date not before 12/2022).
- Students with GPAs lower than 3.4, but higher than 3.0, may apply with a letter of recommendation.
Application Requirements:
- In their application, the students will propose a project idea.
- Project ideas may be in the early stages and may not yet be fully developed.
- Priority will be given to projects which are long-term (3-4 semesters), are feasible and innovative, expand on the students' prior coursework or extracurricular activity, include original and unique work, and will positively impact the community (broadly understood).
Instructions:
- On the next page, you will see two tasks: "Fall 2023 Honors EXCEL Program Application" and "Request Mentor Confirmation."
- You must complete the Program Application form, before filling out the Request Mentor Confirmation form.
- Outline your project in the Program Application. Answer the questions thoroughly and honestly. Observe character limits.
- Marking your application complete is not the same as submitting it. You must complete all the other steps to submit your application.
- If your GPA is below 3.4, but higher than 3.0, you will be required to obtain a letter of recommendation.
- Your recommender should be your academic adviser or another WVU faculty or staff member who can speak to any extenuating circumstances which may have impacted your GPA or vouch for your ability to complete your project.
- Use the step titled "Request GPA Recommendation" to identify a recommender. That person will receive an email to submit their letter of recommendation.
- All students must obtain confirmation from their project mentors.
- Select "Request Mentor Confirmation." Click "Request a Recommendation" and identify your project mentor, who will support you throughout your Honors EXCEL project.
- The person you identify as presumptive mentor will receive an email with instructions to submit their confirmation.
- When you mentor has submitted their confirmation, you will receive an email confirming that.
- You do not need to receive the mentor confirmation before submitting your application, but you need to request it before submitting your application.
- Submit your application.
- Select "Review and Submit."
- When you are satisfied with your application, select "Submit."
